JAMES EWART
Technical Swim Coach and Open Water Coach
Efficient Freestyle and Video Analysis Specialist

"You can't fight your way through water. If you try, the water will win"
I am a technique-focused swim coach. I am passionate about helping swimmers achieve their goals.
I have over 5,000 hours one to one coaching experience in addition to group one day workshops and swim camps. Whether you want to swim more effortlessly, faster, or both, good technique is the key. Whatever your goal I can help you achieve it.
People often over complicate swimming. I keep it simple. Once you get the fundamentals right, a lot of the smaller details naturally fall into place.
One of the main things I work on with swimmers is understanding that to be efficient in the water, we need to use our cores. In order to achieve that everything has to be “connected” to the weight shift as we swim. When we focus too much on Catch and Pull we can end up just using our arms to power the stroke. I can help you connect your core to make swimming more efficient and fun. I
Video analysis is invaluable for helping you understand your stroke and become a smarter, more efficient swimmer.
I am also a specialist in the prevention of shoulder injuries in swimmers making sure they are letting their shoulders go through a safe range of movement.
I coach at 25m pools in Chichester, West Sussex, Petersfield, Hampshire and one Wednesday a month in London Bridge.
I am also a guest coach for SwimQuest swimming holidays coaching swim camps at Club La Santa, Lanzarote and Formentera.
In addition to being a certified Total Immersion level 3 swim coach and STA level 2 Open Water Swim Coach, I am fully insured for both open water and pool coaching and hold NRASTC, RYA Powerboat 2, British Canoe Union Foundation Safety and Rescue Training (FSRT) and enhanced DBS certificates.

"James is fantastic, he applies the principles of TI, but it feels unique to you and the challenges you face with your stroke. Most of all, what he says makes sense, and he makes it easy to apply, to take away and carry on practising. My biggest takeout from his sessions is that I now get how swimming should feel, and that’s after being a competitive swimmer for over 30 years!"
